Claresse is a cross between the Clarias gariepinus and the Heterobranchus longifilis. These two catfish, originally from Africa, have been crossed, resulting in the claresse. It is therefore a freshwater fish, but does not occur in the wild. The fish is light pink in color, has a firm bite and a fine texture, which is also an important identifying feature of claresse.
