Red deer eat plant-based food: they are herbivores. In wooded areas, the percentage of bark, buds, seeds, and shoots is higher than in more open areas. Venison is characterized by its dark red color and has a somewhat milder taste compared to other game species. Venison pairs well with various types of sauces, such as red wine, cognac, and red currant sauce. Venison topside is the leanest part of the haunch. Very juicy and tender meat.
