The white button mushroom is the most commonly eaten mushroom in the Netherlands and is grown all year round. They are picked by hand and placed directly into the packaging. In this way, the mushroom retains its white colour. Because of its neutral aroma, the mushroom combines well with fish, meat, poultry and most types of vegetables.
The white button mushroom has an even, white, round cap and a white stem. The mushrooms should be used as fresh as possible. The mushroom keeps best at a temperature between 4°C and 7°C. In this way, a shelf life of at least three days can be achieved. Do not clean the mushrooms with water, but with a brush or cloth. This prevents the mushroom from soaking up water. You can fry, roast, braise and deep-fry mushrooms, among other methods. Fried mushrooms, for example, are an excellent addition to a salad or pasta dish.
