Whelks, also known as bulots, are sea snails that live in areas with a soft sandy bottom. The shell is light brown on the inside and light brown with green hues on the outside. The meat has a firm, supple texture and a pronounced salty flavor. The whelks are caught using bait, which may result in a slight odor upon delivery. The product is supplied as unprocessed shellfish with a distinctive marine character.
