As the port ages longer in the barrel, it loses its ruby red color and acquires the enticing amber color we know as tawny. The wine gradually becomes smoother and softer, and the aromas become richer and more complex. In this 20-year-old port, the primary fruit tones give way to ripe mature fruit, warm spicy notes of cinnamon and butterscotch, and subtle oak. Great in combination with figs, almonds, and caramel or with crème brûlée.
