This black kale is called 'cavolo nero' in Italy, because the leaf of the plant is very dark in color (nero = black). Cavolo nero consists of narrow, loose leaves and resembles kale a bit. The taste is somewhat like chard: a little bitter, firm, and crunchy. Delicious to roast briefly.
