The Zeeuwse Platte, also known as le Platte, Belon, flat oyster or native oyster, is known for its refined flavor. This oyster develops its character slowly and is only ready for consumption after 5 to 6 years, which contributes to its pronounced and layered taste. The shell is round and smooth, and the size is indicated in zeros. The Zeeuwse Platte is scarce because it reproduces with difficulty and is being displaced by the faster-growing Zeeuwse Creuse. The season runs from mid-September through April.
