Chicken satay puff pastry skewers with peanut sauce

Ingredients

400gChicken fillets, cut into 2 cm cubes
1Beaten egg
100mlSoy sauce
2Honey
2Finely chopped garlic cloves
1Freshly grated ginger
1Tante Fanny puff pastry roll
2Mixed sesame
2Maple syrup
80gPeanut sauce
8Wooden skewers
2Rice vinegar

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  2. Make sure the wooden skewers soak in cold water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning.
  3. Mix 80 ml soy sauce with honey, grated ginger, and half of the finely chopped garlic in a bowl.
  4. Add the chicken breast cubes to this marinade and let them marinate.
  5. Cut the puff pastry into 8 equal strips.
  6. Thread the marinated chicken breast cubes alternately with the pastry strips onto the damp wooden skewers. Make sure there is enough space between the chicken and the pastry.
  7. Place the chicken skewers on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
  8. Brush them with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  9. Bake the chicken satay skewers for 20-25 minutes in the oven, or until golden brown.
  10. For the peanut sauce, mix peanut butter with the remaining garlic, 20 ml soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup, and add 3-4 tbsp water until the sauce reaches the desired consistency.
  11. Serve the chicken satay skewers with the homemade peanut sauce.
  12. For a complete meal, serve with a fresh Asian salad.
